Identifying viable new industries for Montana

Praxis Strategy Group lead an economic diversification project funded with grants obtained from the Secretary of Defense's Office of Economic Adjustment and the Montana Department of Commerce. The initiative was carried out on behalf of Cascade County and the Sweetgrass Development District in Montana, with a goal to provide a cohesive and attainable set of action steps to support the development and expansion of new and emerging business opportunities in the region.

The study included detailed industry sector targeting analysis and workforce modeling to identify viable new industries for the region.

The study included multiple community meetings, specific focus groups and group presentations. Praxis performed comprehensive baseline and regional workforce assessments, as well as developed strategic action steps related to energy, agri-processing and alternative agriculture and entrepreneur and small business development. The project included detailed industry sector targeting analysis and workforce modeling to identify viable new industries for the region.

With a better understanding of the Great Falls, Montana, region's economic attributes, Praxis was able to develop a plan to increase the area's potential for growth in the defense industry. In 2011 the project won an innovation award from the National Association of Development Organizations.
